Textile 2 Plugin
August 02, 2007. Douglas Nerad
Barijaona sends us this news:
Here is the Textile 2 plugin for blosxom 2 which is absent from the unofficial plugin registry.

I haven't tested, but you should be able to replace the Textile.pm file with the latest one for MovableType which you can find at http://bradchoate.com/mt-plugins/textile
You can download the file here.

Wikipedia Trouble for Blosxom!
August 02, 2007. Douglas Nerad
Thanks to "outdated and obscure" Blosxom user Britta we learn that Wikipedia had been thinking of deleting its Blosxom entry. As it stands the thought from Wikipedia is that the article needs to be rewritten. If anyone feels up to the task please get involved!

BlosEdit 2.0 Released
September 17, 2006. Douglas Nerad

As announced to the MailingList from Peter Richard, shamelessly copied and pasted here:

BlosEdit 2.0 now features a modicum of AJAX goodness (mainly in Navigate webpage) and a revamped interface. The old blosedit 1.x series had only two webpage to do everything in, now we have four by splitting the main navigation screen into three (Navigate, Upload and Logout/Static).

With javascript enabled in your browser, you can select a directory simply by a mouse click on its name. The file list will be updated automatically.

Double-click a file in the file list and it will open for editing. A single click will select it if you want to delete it. If javascript is disabled then submit buttons appear to give you these functions (just like Blosedit 1.x)

When editing, you can change the save directory before saving. This is particularly useful when you include complex temples in your work. For instance I keep a templates for embedding QuickTime movie objects saved in draft mode so that blosxom ignores it. All I need to do its open the template, fill in the movie file location add whatever descriptions or comments I need and then save it in the true target directory with "use original date" unchecked (so that time stamp is current). This is also useful as a "move" file action. Open a previous entry in one directory, change the directory, save it, and delete the original. A "copy" excludes the last step.

Help Diagnosing Perl Module Dependencies
August 19, 2006. Douglas Nerad

I was trolling the MailingList and noticed a very good tip from a certain Peter G (website, Peter, so I can link to you?). He was trying to install a plugin that had certain Perl module dependencies, but maybe because he didn't have access to the server error logs he couldn't figure out which modules were missing.

So he added this line to his blosxom.cgi which then dumped the errors into the web browser, making for easy diagnosis:

use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser);
It's an excellent and simple diagnosis tool, and we hope it helps others!

Installing Blosxom Tutorial
April 24, 2006. Douglas Nerad

Though written a year ago, Greg's very basic installing blosxom tutorial is well written and has some good basic information on installing Blosxom for the first time.

Blagg Plugins
December 24, 2005.

I've been super lazy lately. This article should have been posted a month ago when Markus (website?) made a nice summary of some of the Blagg plugins available out there. For those of you curious, Blagg is to RSS aggregation as Blosxom is to blogging. Not surprisingly both come from the genius of Rael. For simplicity's sake I'm just going to copy Markus' summary from the MailingList.

Unfortunately the original site seems to be down right now, but if you're curious to try it out you can download a local version here. Meanwhile here's what Markus wrote.

I've dug up and posted the blagg plugins in a Files -> blagg files.

There are some other blagg plugins not written by Rael. I'll reference them here.

http://www.speirs.org/blagg/ has a plugin that takes a series of RDF feeds and posts to a LiveJournal account the stories that have appeared in the channels since it was last run.

Another LJ solution can be found at http://popone.innocence.com/archives/2002/10/15/bridgebuilding.php

www.bstpierre.org/Projects/blagg.html has a blagg plugin for placeing incoming posts into a separate directory for each feed.

http://radio.weblogs.com/0100887/2002/05/09.html points to http://www.pipetree.com/~dj/jabberconf.pl for pushing RSS item info to a Jabber conference room

http://www.pipetree.com/qmacro/blog/archives/2003/01/29/ has one on posting to Usenet/NetNews (i.e. nntp). Another article on it is at http://decafbad.com/blog/2003/01/30/ooodod

FYI ... I've not used any of these. When I get some free time, after my current pet project, I'll be tinkering with them.

Later, Markus.

Thank you, Markus, for putting together this list! My apologies to you and everyone else for taking so long to post it.

Upload Plugin
November 21, 2005.

Are you a regular user of wikieditish because you don't want to have to upload text files to your Blosxom blog all the time? Have you found it irritating when you want to upload an image and you still have to connect to that remote server?

The upload plugin might be what you're looking for. It allows you to upload multiple files and delete them as well.

The only thing that isn't clear to me is whether the plugin can be used alone or if it has to be used in conjunction with the wikieditish_ext plugin. It appears to be part of hail2u's Blosxom Starter Kit. If someone could lend a hand in clarifying this for English readers it would be appreciated!

The upload plugin is available here (local download here), and the wikieditish_ext plugin can be found here (local download here).

Blosxonomy: Ruby Port of Blosxom
November 21, 2005.

While Blosxom may not have taken the world by storm like other blogging systems (like, say, Wordpress), it certainly started a trend. That's is why we find the Blosxom meme being ported from the original Perl to Java (Blojsom), PHP (Blosxom.PHP), Python (PyBlosxom), Lisp (Lisp-Blosxom) and many others.

Now we can add Ruby to the list with Blosxonomy.

Blosxonomy is a very lightweight Blosxom like blogging system written in Ruby, and designed around four core ities: simplic-ity, taggabil-ity, extensibil-ity and compatibil-ity.
Welcome to the show, Ruby!

New Blosxom Review
November 13, 2005.

As promised to the MailingList, Lee Underwood has posted his review of Blosxom on WebReference.com. It's quite friendly to Blosxom, although I think Frank "Heckler" might have an issue with his family's name. :)

While I'm at it, Aaron Toth mentions Blosxom in his review of blogging systems. It's always nice to get some attention!

Powered By Blosxom Site
May 17, 2005.

From Scott Mellgren on the MailingList comes this great find:

I was about to do a new "powered by blosxom" search (a year and a half later), but the first page revealed this link, which took all my free time browsing. So, no list needed with a link like this... complete with thumbnails of each site...

http://link.yukiakari.net/links/link_b.php
I've never visited so many websites of a foreign language in one sitting, but it was kind of fun.

Great find! It would be interesting to make a linkblog like this someday!

Remote Blog Entries Using Wikieditish
March 08, 2005.

by Michael Rioux at Tastes Like Tofu.

If you have read the perldocs for the wikieditish plug-in, you'll have seen the note that it can be used to write new Blosxom entries simply by pointing your browser at a non-existent filename, potentially on a non-existent path (e.g. /path/to/a/nonexistent/post.wikieditish), and the directories will be created for you on the fly. This works pretty well for me, as I am more likely to want to add an entry while I am away from my own computer than when I am in front of it. However, some simple setup is needed to make this work and be secure. Here is my guide to this setup.

BXR, ecto, and Escaped Entities
February 17, 2005.

If you are using (or want to use) BXR and ecto to post to your Blosxom blog you might run into a problem where posting works but your html has the < character converted to < after you post. Read on for how I fixed this problem.

Blosxom.PHP
February 10, 2005.

There's a new kid on the block. He's the child of PHPosxom and the grandchild of Blosxom.

Blosxom.PHP is a reworking of PHPosxom with many improvements. The author, whose name from the front page I can't quite make out, says, "I have rewritten PHPosxom to fulfill my needs." Indeed, that is why many of us use Blosxom in the first place. Welcome to the family!

A Better RSS 2.0 Template
January 18, 2005.

Hal Halvorsen wrote in to let us know he has a new and improved set of templates for RSS 2.0 (as flavour files). "This is what I believe is a cleaner and better RSS 2.0 template for Blosxom. I wrote it because I had some problems with the original RSS 2.0 template by Mike Mason (but big credit to Mike for his version)." He has detailed notes you should read before downloading (local download here).

Blosxom Themes
June 09, 2004.
There has been much confusion regarding the theme plugin and its installation and usage. I hope here to explain as clearly as possible for newcomers how to install, configure, use and create themes for their sites. This article will show how to install, configure and create themes (a basic HTML theme in this article) using the theme plugin and a text editor. (click here to read more...)

Installing Blosxom's Login Plugin
