Textile 2 Plugin
August 02, 2007.     Douglas Nerad
Barijaona sends us this news:
Here is the Textile 2 plugin for blosxom 2 which is absent from the unofficial plugin registry.

I haven't tested, but you should be able to replace the Textile.pm file with the latest one for MovableType which you can find at http://bradchoate.com/mt-plugins/textile
You can download the file here.

Writeback With Akismet
June 21, 2006.     Douglas Nerad

Kevin Scaldeferri recently integrated Akismet with Fletcher Penney's wonderful WritebackPlus plugin. The result is something that should help remarkably reduce comment spam on Blosxom blogs. Read Kevin's notes and then download the plugin (local download here)>

Another Plugin Registry
April 11, 2006.     Douglas Nerad

Blosxom is thriving in Japan. So much so that they are kicking my butt putting together a plugin repository. They might not have as many listed as the original or on this site, but theirs looks up to date and growing. Japanese language, but don't let that stop you. :)

New Plugin: multicat
March 14, 2006.     Douglas Nerad

As I said in my last post I can be quite lazy at times. Many apologies to Rus Berrett for taking so very long to post this!

Rus has created a new plugin called multicat

I have written a plug-in that basically allows a blosxom admin to file one entry under multiple categories using symlinks. Even though blosxom will encounter multiple version of the same story (the original entry and its symlinks), the plug-in "tricks" blosxom into only showing one of the entries in any given view. Furthermore, new flavour variables are defined that allow the author to display which categories the entry is "filed under".
You can read more about the plugin and download it from his site (local download here).

Tagging Plugin Updated
March 14, 2006.     Douglas Nerad

Axel Beckert has updated his tagging plugin with loads of new functionality. Combine it with his new pathbasedtagging plugin and you've got yourself a very cool tagging system for Blosxom. In his own words:

I've overdone my tagging plugin so it now not only supports Technorati relation attributes but also Technorati style and therefore path info based tag URLs like http://blog/cgi-bin/blosxom.cgi/tags/foo instead of the old query string based http://blog/cgi-bin/blosxom.cgi?-tags=foo

To use this URL style with blosxom but without fiddling around with e.g. Apache's mod_rewrite I created a small accompanying plugin called pathbasedtagging which lets blosxom treat such URLs special, so it won't look for posts in a directory called tags. This also works with non-apache webservers since it's purely blosxom based.

Important: The pathbasedtagging plugin must come before the entries_index or entries_cache plugin when regarding the plugin order, while the tagging plugin itself must come behind them. (That's the reason why I had to put it into an extra plugin...)

There's also much more documentation and many alternative tagging URL prefixes in the plugin.

And then I hacked a small little plugin called dept allowing Slashdot alike dept lines in your blosxom based blog.
You can read more about and download the plugins here (local downloads for tagging, pathbasedtagging, and dept).

Axel Beckert's Four New Plugins
February 26, 2006.

Axel Beckert has released three new plugins recently. Here are his descriptions:

* acronyms works similar to and is losely based on Fletcher Penneys autolinks but instead of setting links it marks configurable keywords as abbreviation or acronym and show their expansion when hovering over the keyword (all using standard XHTML).

* xml_ping_generic is based on xml_ping_weblogs and can ping an arbitrary number of URLs to be pinged with the weblog.coms XML RPC ping API. By default it pings weblogs.com and technorati.com.

* date_rfc822 is nothing else than the 822-date command (which is written in Perl, too) wrapped into a blosxom plugin. Work similar to date_fullname. I use it for including <pubDate> tags in the RDF.
Here are the download links: acronyms (local download), xml_ping_generic (local download), date_rfc822 (local download).

Separately he also released his comments_antispam plugin. Read and download this useful anti-comment spam plugin here (local download here).

Hitcounter and Favorites Plugins
February 15, 2006.

Steve Schwarz has created two new plugins for tracking visitors to your site. The first, hitcounter, finds out what pages visitors are checking out and stores the individual hits in a file. At least if I'm understanding this. :)

The favorites plugin then takes statistics from that file and creates lists of stats. Check out Steve's Favorite's page to see this in action. As an aside, every time I've written "favorite" I keep wanting to spell it "favourite" to go along with Blosxom's use of "flavour" instead of "flavor".

You can download hitcounter here (local download here) and feedback here (local download here).

Looking at Steve's Favorite's page it would be pretty cool if the plugin could somehow extract the title of the article and post that instead of the path...

Google Sitemap Plugin
February 13, 2006.

The need for Japanese language skills seems more and more a requirement as our Japanese friends keep making new and interesting plugins for Blosxom.

This is a relatively new one that will allow you to create a Google Sitemap for your blog. Included in the package is the plugin and an XML flavour to put the sitemap online. The download link is at the top of this page just underneath the title (local download here).

"Kay", the author of the plugin (and I assume the owner of the site!) has a few other interesting plugins listed at the left sidebar. Take a look!

Feedback Plugin Updated to v0.19
February 06, 2006.

Frank Hecker has updated his feedback plugin to version 0.19. This is a plugin that allows commenting on your Blosxom blog.

You can download the current version here (local download here).

Feedback Plugin Updated to 0.18

Frank Hecker has updated his feedback plugin to version 0.18. Get the latest version here (local version here).

Upload Plugin
November 21, 2005.

Are you a regular user of wikieditish because you don't want to have to upload text files to your Blosxom blog all the time? Have you found it irritating when you want to upload an image and you still have to connect to that remote server?

The upload plugin might be what you're looking for. It allows you to upload multiple files and delete them as well.

The only thing that isn't clear to me is whether the plugin can be used alone or if it has to be used in conjunction with the wikieditish_ext plugin. It appears to be part of hail2u's Blosxom Starter Kit. If someone could lend a hand in clarifying this for English readers it would be appreciated!

The upload plugin is available here (local download here), and the wikieditish_ext plugin can be found here (local download here).

Tagging for ModBlosxom
November 13, 2005.

For those of you using ModBlosxom there is a version of Mizzy's tagging plugin for you now. You can pick it up here (local download here). You can translate the page using Babelfish or Google.

Does anyone know where I can pick up more ModBlosxom plugins to start a new registry?

Enclosures Plugin
November 02, 2005.

Keith Irwin has put together an enclosures plugin for all you Blosxom bloggers that want to do audio or video blogs. Nice! The package includes several flavours, including one for RSS2 and two others he recommends (buttress and btrss). You can read more about it, then download it here (local download here).

"New" Plugins; oddoreven and push_if_first
October 20, 2005.

Brilliant Japanese Blosxom user Kyo Nagashima at hail2u has two plugins I've just discovered.

oddoreven will allow you to alter the CSS of every other story you publish. An example of CSS code is given, along with a description of the plugin, here. I'm sure some interesting "look and feel" could be had! Download here (local download here).

Unfortunately I can't get any of the online translators working to read the description, but push_if_first looks like it will put ads from Google Adsense (or other services) into the first story of your site. Useful for not going overboard with ads on your site and something that will probably get used here. Download the plugin here (local download here).

Nagashima-san also has a great Blosxom Starter Kit; check it out if you get a chance!

Frank Hecker Remakes Writeback; Feedback
September 23, 2005.

Frank Hecker has undertaken a huge and complex project to take as many variations on the writeback plugin and unify them. Below the fold is his email to the mailing list explaining what he did and why, or you can read the summary on his site. It looks good. It tastes good. It must be good!

The lastest version of this plugin can always be found here.

Blosxom Plugin Helper
September 04, 2005.

Intrepid Japanese Blosxom innovator Kyo Nagashima at hail2u has created a Perl script to help plugin authors create a template plugin with many important elements already present called blosxom-plugin-helper. The script, available here (local download here) will put in an author name, plugin name and version, a copyright notice, the MIT license information, and the important parts of a perldoc call. This should save some plugin creators some time in creating the outline of their plugins!

Plugins Galore!
August 27, 2005.

If you were ever looking for odd plugins for your Blosxom setup, this might be one of the best sites available. We might not have time, energy, or translation skills to write up descriptions for all of the plugins available, but with 481 files available for Blosxom Version Two and 39 for Blosxom Version Three you're sure to find something useful.

Because of the way this site works, you will have to modify the names of plugins you get from here. There is documentation at the tops of both the V2 and V3 directories. Please follow them carefully or the plugin you want to use probably won't work!

Recent plugins we've added but haven't "featured" in articles include:

dynamic_cache (download)
wbcaptcha (download)
category_desc (download)
wikieditishvc (download; zip file!)
ping_pingomatic_com (download)
pixie (download)
And many many more! We hope you'll find this a useful resource and if you have more plugins to contribute please feel free to write us.

V3 Plugin: Encode
August 27, 2005.

Pomin Wu sent in a new plugin for Blosxom V3 called Encode.pm.

Normally Blosxom does not care about encodings. It assumes UTF-8 encoding for everything (which is the Perl 5.8.x default). Unfortunately web browsers by default read in ISO-8895-1, so usually the simplest way to make everything correct is to always write in UTF-8, and change the "content_type.html" template to something like

text/html; charset=utf-8

If you think it's too tricky, or you can't write in UTF-8 on your platform, or simply don't like to put configurations in layout, Blosxom::Plugin::Encode provides another way.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Actually, since I haven't used V3 yet, I probably couldn't have said it at all but we won't go there yet... Download the file here, and thanks for sending in the new plugin!

Keith Beckman's Plugins
August 27, 2005.

I owe a huge apology to Keith Beckman for not posting this article months ago. Somehow the email got lost in the shuffle. Enough excuses!

The first plugin is called mood and it does what you would expect it to... it shows what mood you're in with an image. It does require the meta plugin. Pick it up here (local download here).

The second plugin is called scase, which is based on the older lcase plugin. It allows URLs to contain upper and lower case letters which won't affect the browser's ability to get to the page someone is trying to reach. Get the plugin here (local download here).

Rob's Stuff
August 27, 2005.

I've just discovered Rob Flickenger's site after checking this site's referer logs. He's got a number of "new" plugins and a script for us Blosxom users.

The first is a version 2 conversion of Bernie Simon's version 3 plugin called Summarize.pm. This summarize can be downloaded here (local download here).

The second addresses an error Rob found in the current paginate plugin which you can read about and download here (local download here).

Finally he's offering a script that allows you to post phone cam pictures via email called blosxcam; something I've been meaning to do for some time on one of my other sites but have not found the time to do. Read more about this script and download it here (local download here).
